Vertical clarifying filters (FOV)

Vertical clarifying filters (FOV) are widely used for water treatment facilities at heat power plants, state district power stations, industrial and heating boiler plants, as well as for wastewater treatment plants.

Filter description: Vertical clarifying filters (FOV) are intended for removal of the suspended impurities of various dispersion from the water. The incoming water is clarified as the impurities stick to the surface and cavities of filtering medium beads, as well as fill free spaces among the filtering material’s particles throughout the whole volume of the filtering material.

The following filtering materials are used in the vertical clarifying filters: silica send, crushed hydro-anthracite, burnt rock, crushed gaize (ODM-2F grade), expanded clay, etc.
 
 
Vertical clarifying single-chamber filters (FOV)
 
Design description: Clarifying single-chamber filters (FOV) for water mechanical treatment consist of
  • vessel;
  • top and bottom distribution assemblies;
  • piping;
  • shut-off valves;
  • sampling station.
 

FOV filter has cylindrical vessel made of welded sheet steel and equipped with welded elliptical pressed bottoms. Three supporting elements are welded to the lower bottom to enable filter mounting onto the foundation.


Upper and lower bottoms have centrally welded flanges for external connection of piping and internal connection of bottom and top distribution assemblies inside the filter.

 

Operation principle: Filter cycle includes following stages:
  • water clarification (filtration);
  • loosening;
  • backwash (by water or air-and-water);
  • discharge of the primary permeate water.
 

 

Pressurized incoming water is supplied to the filter, uniformly distributed by the top collection and distribution assembly and passes through the filtering medium layer in the downward direction. Suspended impurities are captured by filtering material’s particles, and permeate water is discharged through the bottom collection and distribution assembly from the vessel to the collecting receiver. The operation cycle is over when one of the set parameters is met: inlet-outlet pressure differential is more than 0.3 Mpa (according to pressure gauge reading) or the certain amount of the clarified water of the required quality is obtained.

When the filter cycle is complete, the filter is stopped, disconnected from main process pipes, and the cleaned water is supplied upwards to perform backwash. The backwash water is discharged to the drainage. To increase efficiency of backwash the upwards loosening of filtering material by compressed air is applied. When the backwash is complete, the filter is put in operation or kept in standby mode. Right after the filter is put in operation the first volume of permeate water is discharged to the drainage.
 
The operation cycle of FOV filter is over when one of the specified parameter of permeate quality is not achieved and/or inlet-outlet pressure differential is more than 0.3 Mpa.
 
 
Vertical clarifying double-chamber filters (FOV)
  
Design description: Vertical clarifying double-chamber filters (FOV-2K) consist of
  • double-chamber vessel;
  • bottom and top collection and distribution assemblies (one per each chamber);
  • piping;
  • shut-off valves;
  • sampling station.

 

FOV-2K filter has cylindrical vessel made of welded sheet steel and equipped with welded elliptical pressed bottoms, and the blind flat partition.

The flat partition dividing the vessel of vertical clarifying filter in two chambers is connected to upper elliptical bottom by the anchor stays. Through the anchor stays the air comes from the lower chamber to the upper one. The inner pressure in chambers is equalized and both chambers are under common pressure. The bottom and top collection and distribution assemblies have lateral intake.
 
 
Operation principle: Filter cycle includes following stages:
  • simultaneous water clarification (filtration) in both chambers;
  • loosening of each chamber one by one;
  • water or air-and-water backwash of every chamber;
  • discharge of the primary permeate water.

 

The operation cycle of FOV filter is over when one of the specified parameter of permeate quality is not achieved and/or inlet-outlet pressure differential is more than 0.3 Mpa.
